Throughout her life and career, cosmetics scientist and executive Pragna Chakravarti has maintained involvement in a vast array of educational, professional, and personal endeavors. Born and raised in Bombay, India, Pragna Chakravarti gained an early appreciation for the proper use of botanicals through her experience with Ayurveda, a passion she would later take into her future profession.
Following her graduation from the Kolkata-based Jadavpur University with a BS in Pharmacy, Pragna Chakravarti sought advanced education in the United States and relocated to New York City. While there, Pragna Chakravarti enrolled in the St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions, where she completed further coursework in cosmetics. After graduating from St. John’s University with her Master’s degree, Pragna Chakravarti soon found work as a scientist at the Revlon research center in New York City and served in this role for the next four years.
By the early 1980s, Pragna Chakravarti had left Revlon, accepted a position with JAFRA Cosmetics International, Inc., and moved to Los Angeles to work at the company’s headquarters. Ultimately promoted to the dual role of Vice President of Worldwide Research and Development and Chief Scientific Officer at JAFRA Cosmetics International, Pragna Chakravarti has performed as a crucial figure in the innovation and global promotion of the company’s beauty products for more than 28 years.
Frequently seen as a driving force behind JAFRA Cosmetics International and its products, Pragna Chakravarti travels to major trade shows around the world to learn about the latest developments in cosmetics and skin care treatments. Through these activities, Pragna Chakravarti has forged working relationships with major European laboratories to ensure the quality and effectiveness of JAFRA Cosmetics International’s products.
